About The Bower

The Bower is a 36 acre meadow and woodland site on a north slope of the northern Appalachian Mountains. Located in Perry County Pennsylvania (30 minutes from Harrisburg, PA), The “Bower” is a sanctuary where art and the natural world co-exist harmoniously. The Bower landscape features wild and introduced native plants in abundance throughout an enhanced open landscape and woodlands complimented with large-scale sculpture and land art.

The Bower is open by appointment between May and October. An appointment must be made via our website for attendance. The calendar listing the appointments for ticketing will be posted to this website starting April 1, 2024. Each appointment allows the ticket holder’s group to visit The Bower exclusively during the scheduled period. No other visitors will be present providing a unique experience on the landscape.

There is no fee to visit. However, if you care to support our endeavor, please visit our Donate and Volunteer pages via the links below.

The Bower Development

The Bower is a unique rural public garden. 2024 represent our fourth season in operation.

The Bower was designed and constructed over the three-year period between 2018 and 2021. During that period, we collaborated with landscape architects and artists to design and construct landscape, gardens, sculptures, and facilities, which are placed sensitively within the extensive woodland and acres of meadows.
