Bertalan is a neuroscientist by profession who has nourished his creative side with sculpture projects in stone and bronze. Bertalan is from Budapest, Hungary. He was on a sabbatical with his family in the United States when he applied for the Call to Art for The Bower in 2019. He was very enthusiastic about the project and submitted a proposal to create a sculpture for an abstraction of a blue heron, a large native wetland bird. His bronze design originally developed via sketches, clay, and plaster and interprets the heron’s figure using the symbol for infinity ∞. Bertalan created the sculpture working with a bronze foundry in his native Hungary as shown below. The Blue Heron occupies a prominent wetland location at The Bower.
