Peg Belcastro knew from a young age that she would follow a path in the arts. She sold her first painting at 15. She studied at Bloomsburg University and enjoyed creating pottery and sculpture for a number of years. Although Peg was born and raised in south-central Pennsylvania, living in Alaska from 2002-2012 deeply influenced the way she approaches her art. It was in those extraordinary surroundings that she discovered the significance of letting go and getting out of her own way, so vital for tapping into the creative flow. In Alaska, she returned to her love of color and painting. After retiring from a career in real estate, including designing and building homes, she is now able to devote herself to her home studio, where she explores her colorful and abstract paintings with still life, human, and landscape subjects, as well as a recently renewed love of pottery. Peg created the ceramic face and decorative elements for “Mother Earth” at The Bower, and two of her series of “Earthlings” are represented in the Mixed Border small sculpture display. She is represented in various galleries throughout central Pennsylvania and has been represented in invitational exhibits in Pennsylvania, Alaska, Virginia, New Jersey, and Vermont. The Mother Earth body was created by the Bower stewards with bio-mass and indigenous moss, as well as purchased woods edge species for her torso and hair and surrounding plantings.
